Dry Needling in Melton

What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is an effective, safe and gentle technique to treat tight, painful muscles and stimulate muscle and joint recovery.

The dry needling technique uses thin, sterile needles inserted into the trigger points or “tight knots” in our muscle fibres to release tension and restore normal muscle function and recovery. The needles allow us to get into deep and specific points in a muscle. The technique is also effective for exceptionally tight and stubborn muscles.

How is Dry Needling performed?
Very thin and sterile needles are tapped painlessly into the layer of skin through a plastic guide tube. The needles are inserted further to the desired depth and in a specific muscle region. Generally, the needles are left in the muscle for as little as 30 seconds and up to 6 minutes.

What does it feel like?
Many report that Dry Needling is more comfortable and less painful than deep tissue massage. Given the thin size of the needles, most people report not feeling it inserted into the skin. You may feel a muscle twitch, heaviness, dull ache, or tingling sensation, indicating that we are targeting the right spots for recovery.

Benefits of Dry Needling

Relaxes tight muscles: Dry Needling targets the “tight knots” or trigger points in the muscle. The needles can reach deeper into the belly of the muscle, making it very effective.
Decreases pain: The needling process increases blood flow to the region and reduces pain signals from the body. As mentioned above, relaxing the muscle further from tightness will also help reduce pain.
Increasing joint flexibility & mobility: Muscles that are dry-needled settle and relax more effectively, thus allowing the joints that they help move to become more mobile.
Improves muscle function & performance: Muscles free of trigger points and tight knots perform better overall.
