Frequently Asked Questions & Fees

Here is where you can find the most frequently asked questions that we get asked in our clinic. Find out what to expect, bring or wear in your first session or as a returning patient. If your question is missing from our list, and you need help finding what you are after, please write to us via the contact page or call us at (03) 8732 8040. We are here to help!

-Detailed History
We go through a detailed case history, going through essential questions to find out the cause of your pain.
-Examination & Assessment
In our physical examination, we will test to determine your diagnosis/issue to indicate how we can get you out of pain and functioning better again.
-Treatment
Every new patient session comes with treatment. We will make the appropriate referrals unless clinically indicated that we shouldn’t be treating you.
-Exercise & Rehabilitation
Take home exercises and advice based on your condition and how you can continue to care outside the clinic.

The number of sessions depends on a few factors:

  1. Your condition or issue
  2. The severity or how complex your condition is
  3. Your age and health
  4. Your activity levels

Based on the above points, treatments can range from 2-4 sessions for simple conditions to extended periods of care for more complex cases. We will discuss your treatment and management plan with you, summarising your sessions and expectations of your care and recovery. Many individuals incorporate Chiropractic care into their well-being routine & see Chiropractors routinely.

We have a late notice/cancellation policy in our clinic. You must notify us with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice if you require to change or cancel. You may be charged the full consultation fee for changes or cancellations with less than 24 hours notice. We will consider exemptions to particular scenarios or cases.

For Chiropractic sessions, it helps to wear comfortable or loose-fitting clothes to move in. This type of clothing will help us properly assess and treat painful or injured areas.

Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals responsible for assessing, diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal and spine-related conditions.

The Chiropractor’s role is to restore the spine and joint’s health, function and strength. Treatment is achieved through various methods, including manual therapy, soft tissue/therapy massage, rehabilitation and diagnostic imaging.

Chiropractors provide hands-on, non-invasive, safe and drug-free care to promote good health and well-being.

Modern life creates a lot of physical stress on our bodies.

Our modern lifestyle, work habits, and poor posture creates dysfunction in our spine and joints. Prolonged sitting and carrying out repetitive movements can result in inflammation and muscle imbalance and, therefore, can increase the risk of an injury.

Dysfunctional joints need to become functional again to reduce pain and increase movement overall. Trauma, strains, sprains and arthritis can also result in joint dysfunction. Hence, they need to be treated conservatively through Chiropractic care.

A Chiropractic adjustment is applying force to manipulate a specific joint in a precise direction and angle to correct the joint dysfunction (i.e., where the joint is affected or not moving/functioning correctly).

Manual adjustments, but not all, are commonly associated with a ‘popping’ or ‘cracking’ sound. This sound results from gas bubbles forming in the joint as the surfaces are separated. These gas bubbles are visible on an MRI and linger for a few minutes after the adjustment. This process is known as tribonucleation.

The cracking sound is not a measure of a successful adjustment, merely a by-product of the quick movement of the joint. In simple terms, it results from moving a stuck joint, similar to making a popping/cracking noise when we push on our knuckles or bend our knees to a certain point.

Yes! Your Chiropractor has studied for a minimum of 5 years at university and undertaken many clinical hours to be qualified as a safe practitioner.

All Chiropractors undertake seminars and postgraduate courses to provide you with the most up-to-date care. After an in-depth assessment, all Chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue treatments are specific to a specific region.

Chiropractic care is a safe, gentle and effective way to treat conditions of the spine and body.

New patient: Initial consultations take approximately 40 minutes. Your consult includes a detailed case history, assessment, diagnosis & treatment.
Return patients: Review appointments take approximately 20 minutes and consist of history, assessment and treatment.

No, you do not require a referral to see a Chiropractor. Chiropractors are primary care practitioners, meaning anyone from the public can access care with no referral.

Surgery may limit the extent of treatment available to you, but you can still receive treatment. Chiropractors have many methods of treatment to take care of the operated region. Other methods, such as Activator, soft tissue therapy and rehabilitation, are all gentle and safe methods to treat the region.
